Rabbits

In New York and New Jersey, several species of rabbits can be found, but the most common ones are the Eastern cottontail and the New England cottontail. A rabbit population, if it becomes excessively large or concentrated in a specific area, can cause various types of damage, particularly to vegetation. Signs of a potential rabbit presence, which might be perceived as an infestation if their numbers are high or they are causing significant damage, could include evidence of nibbled or chewed plants, presnece of burrows or nests, rabbit droppings and tracks. If you notice these signs and are concerned about rabbit damage to your property, there are various humane and effective methods for managing their presence.

To manage the rabbit infestation, our wildlife management experts will:

  • Assess the extent of the rabbit infestation, including the population size, activity areas, and factors contributing to the problem.

  • Recommend habitat modifications to make the area less attractive to rabbits. This could include removing dense vegetation, minimizing food sources, or installing fencing to deter rabbits from accessing sensitive areas.

  • Use repellents or deterrents to discourage rabbits from entering certain areas. These could include chemical repellents, physical barriers, or visual deterrents.

  • Trapping methods to capture and remove rabbits from the area. Trapping will be done in accordance with local regulations and guidelines to ensure the humane treatment of the animals.

  • Monitoring programs to assess the effectiveness of control measures and make adjustments as needed.

It's important to approach rabbit infestations with care and consideration for the welfare of the animals and the broader ecosystem. At EZ Wildlife Management, we have the knowledge and experience to implement control measures effectively and responsibly while minimizing harm to both rabbits and the environment.
