Raccoon
In New York City and New Jersey, the most common raccoon species is the North American raccoon. These raccoons are highly adaptable and can thrive in a variety of environments, including urban, suburban, and rural areas.North American raccoons have distinctive features, including a black "mask" of fur across their eyes, a bushy ringed tail, and a grayish-brown coat. Raccoons are highly intelligent and resourceful animals, known for their ability to exploit human environments for food and shelter. In urban and suburban areas, they can be found living in attics, crawl spaces, chimneys, sheds, garages, and even inside homes. They are nocturnal animals, meaning they are most active during the night. Signs of a raccoon infestation or presence in an area can include raiding garbage cans or compost bins, damaging gardens or landscaping in search of food, tearing off roof shingles or soffits to access attics or crawl spaces, or damaging insulation and ductwork inside buildings.
If you're experiencing issues with raccoons causing problems on your property, we will:
Assess the extent of the raccoon infestation, including the population size, activity areas, and factors contributing to the problem.
Recommend habitat modifications to make the area less attractive to raccoons. This could include removing dense vegetation, minimizing food sources, or installing fencing to deter raccoons from accessing sensitive areas.
Use repellents or deterrents to discourage raccoons from entering certain areas. These could include chemical repellents, physical barriers, or visual deterrents.
Employ trapping methods to capture and remove raccoons from the area. Trapping will be done in accordance with local regulations and guidelines to ensure the humane treatment of the animals.
Recommend excluding raccoons from specific areas by installing barriers or modifying structures to prevent access.
It's important to approach raccoon infestations with care and consideration for the welfare of the animals and the broader ecosystem.
