Mosquito
In New York and New Jersey, the most common type of mosquitoes are the Northern House Mosquito and the Asian Tiger Mosquito. While mosquitoes are primarily considered nuisance pests due to their biting behavior, some species are also capable of transmitting diseases to humans and animals. Mosquito infestations are typically characterized by the presence of large numbers of mosquitoes in and around a specific area. While mosquitoes are ubiquitous in outdoor environments, especially during warmer months, signs of a mosquito infestation may include increased mosquito activity and the presence of mosquito bites or larvae. Although mosquitoes may not directly cause physical damage to property like other pests, their presence can still have negative implications for property owners in terms of health risks, reduced property value, and decreased usability of outdoor spaces.
To control mosquito infestations, our pest control professionals will:
Conduct a thorough inspection of the property to identify areas where mosquitoes are breeding and resting. Common breeding sites include standing water sources such as ponds, bird baths, clogged gutters, flower pots, and other containers.
Eliminate or reduce their breeding sites. We may recommend removing or draining standing water sources, cleaning out gutters, repairing leaky faucets, and ensuring that outdoor containers are emptied regularly.
Apply larvicides to standing water sources where mosquito larvae are present. Larvicides are chemicals that target mosquito larvae and prevent them from developing into adults. These treatments can help reduce mosquito populations before they become adults and start biting.
Apply insecticides to target adult mosquitoes and reduce their populations. This may involve treating vegetation, resting sites, or other areas where adult mosquitoes are active. Insecticide treatments may be applied using fogging equipment or spray applications.
Recommend habitat modifications to make the property less hospitable to mosquitoes. This may include trimming vegetation, reducing areas of dense foliage, and improving drainage to eliminate standing water.
Provide recommendations for personal protection measures to reduce mosquito bites, such as wearing insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and using mosquito nets or screens.
While pest control professionals can provide valuable assistance in controlling mosquito infestations, it's important to note that complete eradication of mosquitoes from outdoor environments is typically not feasible. However, effective mosquito control measures can help reduce mosquito populations, minimize mosquito-related nuisances, and lower the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
